2011 “LIVING LEGENDS” ANNOUNCED

The Braunfels Foundation Trust has announced the selection of Bud Dallmann and Bill Schumann as “Living Legends of New Braunfels”.  Dallmann and Schumann are the 7th class of Living Legends and will be honored at a recognition dinner on October 11 at the New Braunfels Civic/Convention Center. The Trust was founded with a small monetary gift from the community of Braunfels, Germany following the devastating flood here in 1972.  The Trust is a non-profit 501(C)3 organized to support youth education programs in the area.  The Trust also provides facilities for Communities in Schools of South Central Texas.  Tickets for the event go on sale September 1.

  

EDUCATION CZAR COMING THURSDAY

The Chamber’s Business-Education Partnership Committee will host their annual Back to School Luncheon this Thursday from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm at the Seekatz Opera House in downtown New Braunfels.  This year’s keynoter is Texas Education Agency Commissioner Robert Scott, a Canyon High School graduate.  The event each year honors teachers of the year in multiple school districts.  The event has been sponsored by Bruce Barnard and Barnard-Donegan Insurance for the last eight years.  Thanks, Bruce!


COUNCIL TAKES ON PARKING, RIVER ISSUES

The New Braunfels City Council will convene in regular session at 6:00 pm this evening at 424 S. Castell Avenue.  The meeting can also be viewed on Time Warner Cable Channel 21.  Following a twelve-item consent agenda, Council will take up nine individual items for consideration including three items having to do with parking and storage of certain vehicles on public as well as private property, first reading of an ordinance to restrict certain types of floatation devices and containers on the Comal River and the first reading of an ordinance to prohibit all disposable containers on certain public right-of-ways. 


LEADERS WANTED – APPLY BY FRIDAY

The deadline to return completed applications for the Chamber’s 20th Class of Leadership New Braunfels is this Friday, August 12.  The program will begin in October with a reception to introduce the class, a weekend retreat at T-Bar-M, monthly class sessions from October to May and a graduation luncheon.  Applications are available at www.nbcham.org/lnb or by dropping by the Chamber office.  The time to lead is now!


ECONOMIC BOARD TO CONSIDER GRANT POLICIES

The regular monthly meeting of the New Braunfels Industrial Development Corporation (4B Board) is this Thursday at 6:30 pm in Conference Room A at the Municipal Building.  The Board will discuss among other topics creating guidelines for the bestowing of grants to qualified organizations and the funding of equipment to increase water pressure issues at the Ashley Furniture Distribution Center

“RAISE FUNDS WITHOUT RAISING ISSUES” NEXT SEMINAR

“Raising Funds Without Raising Issues: A Guide to Texas State Laws that Effect Non-Profit Fundraising” will be presented by Attorney Katy David of Oppenheimer Blend Harrison and Tate, Inc. in Honors Hall August 17.  The seminar will take place between 11:30 am and 1:00 pm with lunch included.  Register online at www.nbcham.org/seminar. LOCAL FARM-TO-MARKET VYING FOR NATIONAL TITLE

The New Braunfels Farm-To-Market on Castell Street is among twenty leading farmers markets across the nation vying for the title of America’s Favorite Farmers Market in their size category.  The project, in celebration of National Farmers Market Week, is a contest by the American Farmland Trust. Online voting for America’s favorite farmers markets opened June 1 and runs through midnight August 31. A market in each state with the most votes will also win a prize from American Farmland Trust and its partners. CHAMBER RECOGNIZED AT NATIONAL CONVENTION

The American Chamber of Commerce Executives annual convention concluded yesterday in Los Angeles, California.  The Greater New Braunfels Chamber received the Ace Silver Award in the field of electronic communication for the NewBraunfels.tv Project.  The only other Silver Awards went to the Hampton Roads, Hilton Head Island, Lynchburg and Nashville Chambers. Our Chamber also placed in the Top Ten nationally in the largest total revenue category for new member dollars and number of new members in 2010.  The Greater New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce was the only Texas chamber in those two categories.
