Updates

The CTTC is full; more than 2000 students spring 2010.  Expansion is high on the discussion list of the Chamber and City leaders to meet the higher education needs of our community.  The City will apply for another EDA grant to assist local dollars in making this expansion become a reality.  Firm data and statistical information will be needed to substantiate the need for additional space and why EDA dollars must be part of the development equation.  The Clarus Corporation, a data gathering firm from Nebraska, has completed the Community Scan and personal business interviews are set for August.  To aide in the overcrowding, two portable buildings are planned for Fall 2010.  Both New Braunfels 4B and Seguin 4A have committed $31,000 each to pay for the study to be completed by the end of summer 2010.  The next step will be to begin the EDA application process tentatively planned to commence in fall 2010.

The New Braunfels Municipal Airport will be getting a face lift of sorts when both runways, taxiways , and aprons are beefed up structurally.  In addition to the structural work, these areas now have new surfaces and fresh, visible markings.  New tie downs will also be installed to handle more apron parking for aircraft.  All of this work is being completed with a grant from the New Braunfels Industrial Development Corporation (4B Board).

Goodwin Lane will soon be getting a major face lift to improve navigation for more than a mile from FM 306.  The Koontz McCombs site has long been the focus of development in this area. Koontz McCombs had invested more than $200,000 in preliminary work and engineering design, which was given to the City.  The City began study and then went to bid with the project.  In April 2010, the 4B Board heard an update about the project that is now moving forward. When the project is completed the roadway from FM 306 to the end of the Koontz McCombs property will be two lanes with a continuous turn lane.  All utilities have been relocated. This improvement will make travel much smoother and property more desirable for future business growth and development.
