FROM THE CHAIR 

In my position as Board chair, I have been trying to attend as many committee meetings as possible to know first hand what is going on and who is involved.  You guys are great!  The reason this Chamber is so effective is because of the work you are doing.  I am impressed with your ideas and enthusiasm and your concern for our community. 

 

 The diversity of the committees, the issues tackled and the remarkable results are outstanding.  School truancy, ever- increasing traffic, river clean-up, city growth, year around tourism, supporting new member businesses and managing one of the state’s largest amateur golf tournaments are just a few of the topics.  Your time and commitment to the tasks continue to add to the wonderful quality of life we enjoy in this area.  Kudos to our staff for keeping our committees informed and on track to get the jobs done.

 

If you are not signed up for a committee or have not been attending the meetings, you are the one missing out on the action.  Get involved.  You will be so glad you did and so will your fellow citizens.

 

Thanks for the cards, phone calls and especially prayers during my recent hospital stay.  They are so appreciated and I am fine now.

MARCH BUSINESS AFTER HOURS "MIXER"

Over 500 Chamber members attended the March Business After Hours Membership “Mixer” in Gruene.  Sponsors for the event included THE GRAPEVINE, GRUENE HALL and MOZIE'S BAR & GRILL.  Members received a Gruene Passport  at sign in and were asked to visit all three locations, get their passport stamped and have a chance to win $300, $150, and $50 cash.  KAY RUST of RUST GAME PLACE won $50, Mark Rhodes won $150 and MARGY WALDRIP of KUEBLER-WALDRIP BED & BREAKFAST won $300.  The mystery member for the evening was RON REAVES and the 10^th person to shake his hand and win $10 was David Smith.  Not present to win the $700 Chamber cash drawing was CRAIG OWEN of KELLER WILLIAMS REALTY.  Maybe next time Craig!

APRIL BUSINESS AFTER HOURS "MIXER"

Approximately 300 Chamber members attended the April Business After Hours Membership “Mixer” at WOODS CYCLE COUNTRY.  Sponsors for the “mixer” included JEFFERSON STATE BANK, RUDY’S COUNTRY STORE & BAR-B-Q, WOODS CYCLE COUNTRY and WRIGHT DISTRIBUTING.  Door prize winners were ARTHUR BRINKKOETER of BRINKKOETER’S TRANSMISSION AND LUBE, INC., BRANNON BROOKE of TCOR INSURANCE MANAGEMENT, BARRY COOPER of COOPER’S OLD TIME PIT BAR-B-QUE, DALE HEMSELL, BRENT PERRY of AIRROSTI RAPID RECOVERY INJURY TREATMENT, and PEARLY SOWELL of OMA & THE OOMPAHS.  The mystery member was HEIDI ALEMAN of NEW BRAUNFELS JAYCEES and the 10^th person to shake her hand and win $10 was Royce Gaida of UNIVERSAL FOREST PRODUCTS.  Not present to win the $750 Chamber cash drawing was REGINA TUBRE of NEW BRAUNFELS CANYON LAKE ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS.  Maybe next time REGINA!

WHO WILL GET THE "BOOT"

The annual Chamber Leaders Picnic is scheduled for Thursday, May 7th at the SCHLITTERBAHN Rapids Pavilion. Guests will include Chamber Board members, Committee Chairs and Vice Chairs, Blue Coats, City and County Officials and staff. Those in attendance will enjoy lots of "gemuetlichkeit" and a delicious meal to be catered by GRANZIN BAR-B-Q. The 2008 Grandstander Award or better known as the "BOOT" will also be presented to one "lucky" attendee. Last year's winner of the "BOOT" was SUSAN GRANZIN of EXTRACO MORTGAGE/SUSAN GRANZIN & TEAM is pictured with Chamber Chair of the Board, MARIAN BENSON.

 

 

BLUE COATS OF THE QUARTER

 

MOE SCHWAB earned the Senior Blue Coat of the Quarter Award for the 1st Quarter.

MOE attended 16 ribbon cuttings and 7 Chamber functions. Presenting him with the

award is BRAD WUEST, Blue Coat Chair.
