AIRMAN OF THE QUARTER

2009 celebrates a 40 year partnership with the Chamber and Randolph AFB honoring an airman for their achievements. The 1st quarter 2009 airman will be honored at a reception at Honors Hall on June 3rd at 5:30 p.m.

2009 LNB CLASS PRESENT TO RAP COUNCIL

The RAP Council (Retirees are Progressive) met in Honors Hall on Wednesday, May 20.  According to Roxolin Krueger, Vice Chair of the RAP Council the committee heard two term papers presented by the Leadership New Braunfels Class of 2009.  “Downtown New Braunfels…Ready for Prime Time?” was presented by Ashley Davison of Iniosante Studios, LLC, Keely Mitchell of New Braunfels Jaycees, Lara Perry of Mission Hills Dental, Judy Scott, Derek Thorington, and Suzanne Williams of New Braunfels UtilitiesAmber Brown, Leslie Ferguson, Justin Herbelin of Property Management Professionals, Inc., D.L. Schraub of D.L SCHRAUB LAW FIRM , Gretchen Weicker and Jim Wesson of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – NB presented their term project  the “Creative Class” & The Talent Project.  The committee was very impressed with the professionalism and agreed that both presentations were very informative. BRAUNFELS FOUNDATION HONORS MIDDLE SCHOOLERS

The Braunfels Foundation Trust presents awards each year to 7th and 8th grade middle schools in the Comal and New Braunfels ISDs.  Funding in part is through the Harry and Christine Dierks Memorial Fund.Winners and runner ups receive scholarships in the form of savings bonds with $500 awarded to winners and $100 awarded to runner ups, and their names are engraved on wooden plaques displayed in each school.The Braunfels Foundation Trust is composed of President Dennis Heitkamp, Vice President Carl Feltner, Secretary/Treasurer Michael Meek, and Trustees Marian Benson, Carol Johnson, David Lamon, Robert Orr, Bob Rayfield and Brad Wuest.

Also awarded were the CTTC Career Exploration Awards, sponsored in part by the Greater New Braunfels Economic Development Foundation, and conducted through cooperation with the Central Texas Technology Center.  7th graders Stephen La Rosa and Arturo Medina will attend a summer academy at the Central Texas Technology Center where they will take classes in the latest technology in plastics, robotics/electrical, auto cad, automotive, and computers.

 WILSON HONORED WITH CHAIR OF THE BOARD AWARD

Chamber Chair of the Board Marian Benson is shown bestowing a Chair of the Board Award in the field of youth development to Jean Wilson. Wilson has been on the Communities in Schools board for a decade, serving as President for six years. She conceived the Rock and Roll for Kids fundraiser seven years ago.

 

 

 

 

 

 

BUSINESS/EDUCATION PARTNERSHIP COMMITTEE MEETING

The Business/Education Partnership committee met on Thursday, May 21, at 7:30 am in Honors Hall to complete more than 200 “Kits for Kids”.  This is a project that was created by Chris Douglas and the BEP.   Douglas is Chair of the BEP for the second year in 2009.  As of this date, more than 400 kits have been distributed around New Braunfels.  The kits are prepared in bags and given to agencies and schools around town.  Included in the bag is a children’s book, public library information, Spanish and English calendars, Chamber maps of New Braunfels, and a resource guide for parents and families.  The purpose is to help families with needed information to specific social service offices and encourage them to read and do fun activities with their kids.  The goal is to prepare 2000 bags and distribute them to area schools, county nurse, doctors and dentists, and local municipal judges.  For more information about the “Kits for Kids” program please call Rusty Brockman at 830-625-2385.

NEW BRAUNFELS MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION

New Braunfels Manufacturers Association met on Tuesday, May 19, at Honors Hall for their monthly lunch meeting.  Barry Brittain, of Coleman Company,  presided at the meeting.   More than 25 attended the meeting to hear NBISD Superintendent Mike Smith talk about the school district’s successes on the TAKS testing, the annual budget process, growth, and ways to manage a school district’s budget.   The NBMA meets monthly on the third Tuesday, at 11:45 am for lunch and a program.  Call Rusty Brockman at 830-625-2385 for more information.
