NEW BRAUNFELS — The unemployment rate in the New Braunfels / Comal County area historically averages about two points lower than the national average. That trend doesn’t seem to be changing any time soon, according to the president of the Greater New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce.
Michael Meek said the area’s unemployment rate “has been consistently about a point under the state average and two points under the national average. This has been going on for a long time.”
In December 2011 the national unemployment rate was 8.5 percent, compared to 6.8 percent in the San Antonio-New Braunfels area. In July 2011, those numbers were 9.1 percent and 8.2 percent, respectively.
