Permits and Licensing

FACILITATION OF PERMITS AND PRICING

BUILDING PERMITS

Building Permits are required prior to the construction or remodeling of any structure. This includes repairs, demolition and alterations. Qualified construction contractors are generally familiar with these requirements and can obtain these permits. A list of licensed contractors is available through the City. City building officials will conduct various inspections and issue a Certificate of Occupancy if the construction is sufficiently complete.

NEW BRAUNFELS CITY CODES

The City of New Braunfels adopted the 2006 editions of the International Building/International Residential Code (IBC/IRC) and the 2005 edition of the National Electric Code (NEC) effective September 1, 2008.

Note:

Codes may have amendments and are subject to change. A copy of the ordinances incorporating the changes can be found on the City’s Building Department website.

ZONING

The City of New Braunfels has a comprehensive zoning ordinance. The ordinance addresses all land uses from residential to industrial. Flexibility was built into the ordinance to enhance development; however, the usual protections addressing the integrity of residential areas are also present. There are no state building codes; however, there are state regulations governing fire protection, underground storage facilities, and the environment.
