Kaffee Haus
Kaffee Haus began as Gartenfest in the late 60’s as a
fund raiser for the Conservation Society in conjunction
with Wurstfest. Potato soup and homemade pastries were
served in a vacant store building on Seguin Street.
Later, Hinman House on Castell Street was the scene of
Gartenfest. Hot plate meals were served restaurant style
and homemade goodies were sold. A Rummage Sale was held
upstairs. Polka bands played in the afternoon and other
musicians in the evening.
When Hinman House was no longer available. Gartenfest
was moved to the Plaza Hotel for one year. When
Conservation Plaza began to be developed, Gartenfest was
moved back to Forke Store for eight years. In 1988 when
the Heritage Exhibit moved to the Civic Center, Kaffee
Haus became the concession, serving soup, sandwiches and
homemade goodies. It remained there through 1999.
In 2000, it was again called Gartenfest and
moved back to Forke Store in the Conservation Plaza.
